Rio de Janeiro plans a spectacular waterfall for the 2016 Olympics

The Solar City Tower is to be built on the island of Cotonduba as a welcoming symbol to the 2016 Olympic Games. Whether the participants and visitors arrive by air or water, they will have a spectacular view of the Tower.

To supply energy to the entire Olympic city, the Tower will capture solar energy. It will also pump water up from the ocean to create what appears like a waterfall. Further, the waterfall will be used to stimulate turbines to produce energy during the night.

The Tower will hold an amphitheater, an auditorium, a cafeteria, and boutiques. Elevators will stop at various observatories built inside the Tower. The Solar City Tower will also contain a retractable platform from which participants can practice bungee jumping.

At the summit of the building is an observation deck for attendees to appreciate the scenery of the land and ocean, as well as the waterfall. Even if this Tower never gets built, it shows the imagination of the RAFAA, a Zurich-based architecture and design studio.
