K.I.R.K. is an affordable and intuitive Knowledge Interactive Robotic Kiosk.Florida Robotics is a worldwide supplier of entertainment and promotional robotics. Specializing in the design and construction of a wide variety of robots, animatronic characters, Mars type rovers, and other robotic products. They have recently completed construction on their latest entertainment robot, KIRK (Knowledgeable Interactive Robotic Kiosk). The first unit was delivered to Troutville, VA-based Separation Technologies LLC and was promptly nicknamed R.A.L.F, for Robotic Artificial Life Form.
“We love RALF….he is beautiful,” says Pat Borders, President of Separation Technologies. The company uses the robot for community awareness events at schools, in order to teach children about eco-friendly concrete and the environment.
While other complex robots require dozens of buttons and levers to control, one person can operate this robot with one hand via a proprietary remote control and wireless microphone housed in a drinking cup. In the autonomous mode, KIRK can detect observers and deliver pre-recorded messages, give directions, tell jokes or any other routine desired by the owner.
Florida Robotics has sold several units so far and at the price of approximately $50,000, KIRK is affordable compared to some of the six figure machines available with similar features and functions. A limited number of units will be built per year and rentals will be available domestically.
