Unique System Safely Raises Stage to a Height of 33 Yards

The Belgian company Stageco (Tildonk, Belgium) constructed three gigantic, identical stages for the current U2 360° Tour. High-pressure hydraulics are used to assemble and dismantle the 254-ton construction also known as “the claw.”

For this world tour, set designer Willy Williams and stage architect Mark Fisher came up with “the claw,” a 33-yd high stage on four legs, giving spectators all around the stage an unobstructed view of the band.

      We thought so too. It's unbelievable what some companies are doing with the technology out there. How about using the same tech to raise and lower a bridge, operate an enormous molding machine. What I thought was cool is that it didn't take two years to put together, like it would if it were our local municipality.
